Sourdough bread synchronizes its pace to a bygone rhythm, taking time to develop flavors and textures that are reminiscent of simpler times. While yeasted breads go from mixer to oven in a few hours, sourdough takes a full 24 hours or longer. But what we get for this time is a completely different loaf of bread because the long fermentation changes the nature of the grains.
Learning to make sourdough bread is a skill that’s best passed on person to person because the space between knowing a recipe and really knowing how to make it is larger than you would expect. There’s a lot of hand talent that no written word can pass on.
I’m available to teach you in your home kitchen at a level and pace that fits your skills and schedule, and you will have support from me before, during, and after your session. The total cost for up to three bakers is $375, with all materials provided. Classes are four-hours long.
I teach private sourdough bread baking classes in Princeton and in the Greater New York Area. Whether you are a home baker or a professional, I will teach you the details of mixing, shaping, fermenting, and baking a sourdough loaf, as well as how to care for sourdough starter.
We’ll end our time together by sharing a loaf of whole-grain sourdough bread, and you will leave with starter as well as the knowledge and confidence you need to bake sourdough bread in your own kitchen. You will also leave with my contact information for any follow-up questions.
Remember that people have been baking sourdough bread for as long as they’ve been baking bread at all. If it was really that complex and difficult, it would never have found its way into our modern, convenient times.
Please contact me with questions or to schedule your sourdough bread baking class. Due to small class size and the amount of prep work involved, I request 72 hours advance notice for reschedule requests. I appreciate your support and look forward to baking with you soon!
